I share the same perspective as you regarding the Tiehm's Buckwheat situation. It amuses me when comparing the two groups' approaches to conservation, specifically examining the plant versus tangible conservation efforts.

"Since the first hike in the summer of 2019, Fraga and Donnelly have made multiple trips to see Tiehm's buckwheat in its natural habitat. Donnelly visits at least once a month. And Fraga has made the same trip up to Rhyolite Ridge over 40 times—a 12-hour round trip from her home in California."

Under the supervision of a full-time botanist, the Company is conducting scientific research to further increase knowledge of the species and is now operating a dedicated greenhouse in Nevada where plants are being successfully grown from seed collected from the known populations."
