I suspect they were only looking at charts and so were led to believe that "the gap must fill" at 87c to 88c.
But what they did not realise, despite many suggestions here, including from me, that everyone and their grandparents are trying to buy in at 87c to 88c range which makes it very unlikely that the stock will get into that price range, and that you will likely need to bid up a little to guarantee your fill (or re-fill if you traded out higher)...
