Good for you, there was a whole swathe of Chinese that came during the gold rush uneducated and who couldnt speak english...the greeks and italians in the 60s, the vietnamese in the 80s etc etc....and they all have progressed much further than the aboriginal on a whole
Aboriginals have Abstudy, quotas given for them for apprenticeships etc etc...they have more opportunities and resources I would argue than anyone in society afforded to them by the govt
What is stopping them from progressing...numerous things but mainly themselves
Firstly, being held as permanent victims in their minds, we treat them as victims and they see themselves as victims and its a role we both want to keep playing
Secondly, a society not able to tell them that they also need to work hard...who are you to tell a victim they are responsible for where they are at in parta nd improving their lot
Thirdly, closing down of communities and town camps
And arguably a dismantling of their culture...one with intergenerational trauma not so much from 200 years ago, or from the stolen genration, or being removed from their homelands but from the action of the current people ie FASD, rape, adsault, murder, theft, pedophilia etc and the govt too scared to break the status quo
