Long ago suggested to politicians and telstra to all those residing in these remote and residential areas which were and remain constant targets for local vandals :


(1) provide a contact phone to all the residences, along with a $10.00 phone card ;


(2) make sure the mobiles will work, then give away prepaid mobile phones. along with $20.oo credit to get them started;


Such encouragement they would agree to remove most payphones.



Could sign most in communities up for phones - IF they can enable [pincode] blocking of calls from their phone to mobiles, AND [pincode] block block reverse charge call services.



Still often use payphones when in town as they still cheaper calling on my mobile :-)
