Dear diligent,
First of all could I say that the UN has failed abismally in its universial humanatarian role of looking after rufugees.
If we as a country choose to go overseas and fight wars for whatever reasons, then we should accept the consequences whether they be rebuilding war damage or copping a few boatloads of refugees. If we are not honourable enough to do that or if we cannot afford it, then we should stay at home and defend Australia from our own shores.
Either we are insular or we're not and we simply can't, on moraq grounds cherrypick. Its a package deal.
I remember when the unfortunate Vietnamese boatpoeple arrived two years after the commos creamed us in Vietnam we had the same rednecked response.
We should grow up and take responsibility.
We all sat back and watched the demolition of Iraq and Afghanistan from the safety of our own living rooms which rivalled Australian Idol in viewership. No one then said
"crikey" we are distroying these stiff's homes and economy.
No mate, we were more interested in the US laser guided bombs and the foreworks show.
To cop a few boat loads of refos now is scant penance.
