Trades are presumably low at the moment (inflation, interest rates).
So not the worst time to compete on price to gain/retain a few users. With FOREX fees offsetting some of the loss of brokerage revenue (from discount).
AUD being weak doesn't influence my thinking much, since if it's so easy to predict that it's 'too low and will recover' then there's a FOREX bet that should be made. I'm thinking it's not easy to predict, and has a 50/50 chance of going either way, so might as well trade US shares if there are some that you like.
