For what we know so far, it would not be unreasonable to expect that the API will be between 15 - 24 API
getting lighter the deeper they go?

Amistad Oil samples were 15 API (sample conditions were not optimum) ... lighter than Varadero.
Historically Marti was mentioned as having tested at 24 API
(and we know about the high pressures encountered during Alameda1)
No mention of mud weight used for Amistad but they did mention having to increase mud weight to control the hydrocarbon influx in lower Amistad.
They did mention using 1.54 SG at the start of Alameda though
