I think most opinions about this topic are very much ignorant. These boat people will most probably be the same people you will see down at your local centrelink office in two, three, four maybe 10 years down the track. As a refugee officer for more than five years at centrelink up until 2001 I saw many supposedly refugees getting safe passage to australia and then information from past supposed refugees on to which benefits they were entitled too and if for some foreign reason to them that they weren't entitled to a specific payment, they new exactly what they could do to get the decision overturned. I resigned from centrelink as a consequence of this unbelievable behaviour. These people first come to australia with no identity papers and then let our immigration department provide them with the necessary papers so they can claim an allowance(very convenient). Australia in two or three generations will be nothing like the once docile country it is today, more than likely it will be full of indoctrinated religous zealots who will be hell bent on changing the face of society by having a temple on every corner. In my short life span(40 years) I have seen unbelievable changes to our society which can never be taken back and the people or politicians whom brought in these policies which have made australia a happy hunting ground for every too bit refugee with a big tax payer dollar sign in their head should be halled before the courts and jailed for eternity, but unfortunately these people are already dead or soon to be.
