I am in complete agreeance with your option 1 now. Low volumes, the price hit the upper trend line again today and also the 200ema on the daily, it was rejected there, the daily MACD is flattening, W4 crossed into W1 on the 1-hour chart (incorrect count) and the set up failed on the 5-minute chart. Not at all what you would expect for W3. Exited with my trading parcel today.
That being said, a company announcement of some substance could still bring option 2 into play IMO.
