You must be dreaming - Africa's history in the last century was dominated by mining companies that rolled governments and then did dirty deals with the incoming one. Dont like the tax regime and the present corrupt arrangements? Get the CIA to take out the communist dictator. Warlord number 2 immediate does new deals and gets in power. How do you think Anglo American, Glencore/Xstrata and Lonhro were built? Every oil project in African in the last fifty years has been the result of politics and deals. Nigeria is a great case in point.
You have to be seriously delusional if you think that governments are unassailable by corporate interests and a hostile fiscal regime doesnt get companies to the point where they will fund the opposition. I have been round Africa several times and the miners these days are generally cooperative but they dont put up with nonsense from crooks. First Quantum is going through it at present with the current crop of warlords in the Congo, and my money is on Phil Pascal to win that one too.
The mining companies in Australia are playing nice guy at present!!!
