Poyndie...being Greek, my Mum would use "Anathema" quite often...at least 3-4 times a week....to my understanding she used it while watching the news a lot. in the context of "that's evil, that's shameful or in cooking "that can't go together with THAT!" hot oil and water can't go together! they can't mix... Similarly and forgive me for saying this, "You Can't marry a Muslim, Cause You are ORTHODOX!" Shame,! Anathema! get my drift?
