"Wind power plants reach a new global record
All of the world's wind power plants on land and on the high seas generated more than one terawatt hour of electricity for the first time in June. This is an "important moment" and a "milestone," said Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) director Ben Backwell, looking at the data available to the association. The record shows that the way is "paved for a future with renewable energies".
One terawatt hour is one billion kilowatt hours, which in turn corresponds to the output of several hundred nuclear power plants. The terawatt hour measured by the GWEC was achieved by connecting three wind farms in China, two more in the US state of Arizona and in Morocco, and two offshore systems in the Netherlands and Scotland. It took more than 40 years to reach this milestone, Backwell explained. But with the massive expansion of wind energy, the next terawatt hour should be reached in less than seven years."
Now ARU, pace.
