Of the mine he commented how with an open-pit exploitation there was "a real risk for the city" and how, after negotiations and assignments, it was achieved that the project became underground, an initiative that "is still to be studied" because now "what remains is to assess the size of that project that is underground and control its environmental impact." Asked if the change of opinion regarding the mine influenced the results of his candidacy (from the 'no' to the open-pit deposit, he went on to nuance his position and condition it to the conclusions of the environmental impact studies of an underground exploitation), he opined that he has not had a relevant impact on them, "there is no such great electoral niche of opposition to the mine”
