Adapted from the LMG Newsletter....
It's been a month of further developments for LMG and we are excited to share with you some of our highlights.Demonstration Plant Progress -
Equipment Arriving On Site
We have a number of completed equipment packages arriving on-site. Four (4) Reduction Furnace modules out of seven are now
complete. Supporting frames for the reduction furnace as well, lined condenser galleries, and the furnace side wall are complete. Our steam boiler, made locally by Thermal & Pressure Engineering, is a vital component in a chemical plant as it plays a crucial role in producing steam, has been delivered and locally commissioned. Our vacuum pump system has also arrived, which is used to remove air and other gases from the process to create a vacuum environment
Additionally, equipment deliveries have been received by VEEM for all 30 retort tubes used in the Reduction Furnace as well as progressive deliveries for our Spray Roaster, engineered by Tenova.
Stage 2, 10,000+ tpa Magnesium Plant
Stage 2 will follow on from the successful completion of the Stage 1 Demonstration Plant. The results from the Geotech work required to be completed on the Yallourn landfill will determine the annual production size of the commercial plant, however, LMG believes that Yallourn will produce sufficient fly ash from now until closure in 2028 to operate a 10,000 tpa magnesium plant for 20 years.
Stage 3, 100,000 tpa Magnesium Plant
We've selected the perfect location for our new Stage 3, 100,000tpa project, and we couldn't be more thrilled about the possibilities it holds!‘A key advantage of the Samalaju site is the presence of hydroelectric power generation, meaning LMG can potentially operate with 100% renewable power.’ David Patterson LMG CEO.Demand For Magnesium Is SoaringMagnesium, the superhero of the metals, is taking the world by storm!
Its lightweight nature makes it a valuable
resource for traditional uses like die casting and aluminium alloys, but that's not all—the metal is also powering new-age technologies such as bioresorbable stents and magnesium batteries. Thanks to its incredible strength-to-weight ratio, magnesium is 25% lighter than steel (while still being stronger) and one-third lighter than aluminium or titanium.
We’re grateful for your support and interest in the LMG vision. Let's work together to spread the word and create a more sustainable future for us all by sharing our newsletter with your friends and colleagues.
