Debt free and sitting on billions of cash with no (known) immediate growth orientated outlays. You either do dividends, buybacks, or both. Management/Board/majority of shareholders think extinguishing shares is a good value proposition given the market thinks coal is dead and net zero, green hydrogen and magical energy fairies are just around the next bend.
