Simply stated, one of the best leaders that I've ever had the pleasure to work for. I was his Safety Officer during the Deepwater Horizon Incident Response in the Louisiana ICC. Mike was an inspiration to us all and showed what true leadership under pressure looks like.Simply stated, one of the best leaders that I've ever had the pleasure to work for. An exceptionally great leader who has the unique ability to motivate and inspire his team to deliver their best no matter how difficult the task. I am grateful for having had the opportunity to work for such a true leader and remain impressed with challenges he has taken on and his continuous success. An exceptionally great leader who has the unique ability to motivate and inspire his team to deliver their best no matter how difficult the task. I first worked with Mike when I was working on implementation of management systems - you know - the unappreciated silent running kind of job. And Mike totally GOT what I was trying to do, in an environment where few did. Then I worked with him on the BP GoM oil spill response. As Paul Monus said: Mike Utsler saved the company. It was my pleasure to serve under Mike's leadership at the historic response to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. As the Incident Commander and Unified Commander, Mike was an effective spokesman and he kept the message on the response. He made everyone under his command feel proud to be a part of the unified response. Mike is one of the best operating leaders and managers in the world. His approach to systematic management, engagement with the frontline while stressing operating discipline is unmatched in my experience. I also think that his leadership was instrumental in responding to the Deepwater Horizon incident - I think Mike saved the company.Mike is one of the best operating leaders and managers in the world. During one of the worst catastrophes in history (DeepWater Horizon Oil Disaster), I had the pleasure of working with and for Mike Utsler as his BP Gulf Coast Restoration Organization (GCRO) as his Alabama Area Operations Manager.
Although not a typical skill set for one with educational background was in Petroleum Engineering, Mike was able to quickly learn the Incident Command System (NIMS) and masterfully led a huge manpower & resources effort resulting in a stellar outcome. Often times, he had to function under extremely stressful emergency management conditions and did so like a true professional.
His leadership attributes are second to none and, given the opportunity, would be proud to serve with him in the future.
