You name two biggies and conclude that we all agree there aren't many?

Many would think of Agnico Eagle, but they were making noises a few months back about possibly offloading Fosterville (a quality project with 6 year mine life) because it didn't suit their structure (or something like that). I found that astounding, but it may indicate there's more to achieving growth than biggies gobbling up littlies, or simply expanding into vacant spaces. Using that as a guide, I'd say AEM are not a prospect in DEG's case.

You also left out some huge South African miners, but none have shown interest in this part of the world recently.

Barrick have operations in about 12 different countries (several in Africa), and offices in about 15 countries but nought in Aust. It's not impossible, but a drastic change of direction. As soon as I predict they're not interested, they should make an offer with a week or two.

Not sure if we puny retail investors should be secretly (or openly) hoping for a takeover these days. Quite lucrative for trading houses, bankers and movers & shakers, but they always find a way to exercise those corporate manoeuvres being very careful to minimise any financial benefit to ordinary shareholders.
