According to Marketindex.com.au, Steven Gillard received the vast majority of his shares in GDI through options/conversions - by way of the GDI executive performance plan. He might not be in significant debt, as a consequence.
If I were in his shoes, I'd probably diversify my circa $20m holding in GDI, too; not because GDI has poor prospects, but because diversification makes sense.
