ON Wednesday night, when the Labor caucus made its move against Kevin Rudd, Tony Abbott received a phone call from former Prime Minister John Howard.
"You have achieved the greatest prize that any Opposition leader can," Mr Howard said from Johannesburg airport. "You have secured the scalp of a Prime Minister Minister.

In his address Mr Abbott claimed credit for Kevin Rudd's downfall for his party. "Yes my fellow Liberals," he said. "We have defeated one Labor leader and we can defeat another Labor leader."
