Mate, this is not a party political issue. I know many of our elected Canberra political hacks are politicising it as they did the Higgins affair but that is evidence of a desperate moves to seem relevant rather than statesmanship.
The bottom line is that there is an Indigenous social and economic problem as evidenced by the status quo . This for a first world country needs to be remedied but as I have said previously, a top down solution is not the answer.
IMO, the Voice is divisive rather than being integrationist and it won't do any good for a unified Aus let alone benefit those it purports to benefit .
We have tens of thousands of Grey Nomads traveling around Aus but due to a lack of imagination, these Nomads are not given the incentives and the encouragements to volunteer in these outback Indigenous communities so that at least streets can be cleaned up, houses given a facelift and local community adult education programs.
Of course personal safety is an issue which is tragic to say the least. This is where these communities have to step up and ensure the safety of all as the number one priority.
I know at least a dozen people who would gladly volunteer in these communities but their chief fear is personal safety ; more so than if they volunteered in PNG!
