its about choosing your battles to win the war... For the same reason BHP, FMG advertise that they are innovating and going green despite all the while pillaging the world and being among the worst polluters. they need to get public on side to progress projects easier, make more money and get less resistance. when the public have a positive perception of them they also dont get scrutinised for tax evasion etc...
