His explanation does not make any sense.
The payment due date for FY22 tax return is 15 May 2023.
Also, he needs to pay tax for any profit from these 2.1m shares by 15 May 2024 when lodging FY23 tax return.
But if he sells the shares next week, then his tax liability comes to 15 May 2025 only when doing FY24 tax return.
