This SkyWater Investor Presentation for Q2 2023 (below) shows Infineon on their "Partners & Customers" list. Great to see this connection here! That said, we also know that TSMC and Infineon are releasing embedded ReRam as an option in 28nm for the next generation AURIX to customers in later 2023. Despite Infineon teaming up with TSMC, it seems VERY LIKELY IMO that Infineon will sign up with WBT eventually, especially once advanced level qualification of 22nm is achieved. Infineon prides itself in being the leader in automotive NOR flash, so it would be unlikely that they would want to lose their pole position and their competitive edge.
I was reading this interview dated 5 May 2022, with Sam Geha, executive vice president of memory solutions at Infineon Technologies. There's expert in the article where Sam says "And as microcontrollers move to smaller process geometries, when they go below 22nm and move to finFETs, there is no embedded, non-volatile memory technology that’s available for them. The solution is to have a stand-alone memory chip that is going to have a super-fast external interface and communicates with the micro-controller. " He also says "People are evaluating RRAMs and MRAMs and other non-volatile memory technologies to be used on chip, but those technologies currently don’t work at the advanced nodes. And even if they end up working, they’re not going to be reliable at automotive temperatures."
Obviously the article is just over a year old and WBT has since proven its ReRAM to be scalable enough to work on advanced nodes and within the temperature grades of automotive qualification.
So, IMO it's not so much of a question of 'if" as it is a question of "when".
Have a great weekend everyone! I'm looking forward to seeing what the future has in store for us!
