Ora have reporting drill results without a top cut and that is normal practice. Top cutting is used when generating a resource block model as it avoids over estimating the grade of ore blocks within the model. A typical resource block within a block model will have dimensions of 5 x 5 x 10 metres and weigh circa 600 tonnes. If a single 4 inch exploration drill hole passess through that block the sample would have a weight of about 100kgs. After splitting down the sample to a representative mass (a few kilos) it is then sent for assay. Accordingly, top cutting is applied to avoid a very high grade sample assay of a few kilos having too much influence on resource model blocks weighing hundreds of tonnes.
In my experience of nuggetty orebodies, top cutting often results in underestimating the resource ounces because the nuggetts really are present and it is not an accident that the small diamer drill hole intersects them. A cautionary note, however, is the potential in drill holes for smearing of high grade ore from sheared and weakened high grade ore higher up in the hole with lower grade ore at the base of the hole. It is not usually a problem in RC drilling because all compressed air, water and drill cuttings are inside the rod and inner tube as distinct from the annulus.
The discovery of the SEB lode has a lot further to go but I would argue that the results thus far are extremely encouraging. I think the company has a chequered history and far too many shares on issue which has resulted in a wait and see attitude to these spectacular results so close to the surface. I am keenly awaiting further assay results and a better understanding of orebody geometry, especially true widths.
