Have mentioned Aspen's alliance with GSK and benefits for both if a t/o were to occurr..
But the deal is also about taking a huge leap from being a bit player in Australia to becoming a dominant force.
Sigma via Amcal and Guardian has something like 550 stores aroudn Australia while the wholesale side of the business delivers to 4000 stores
Compare that against Symbion. best i can surmise they have about 350 stores through Terry White and Chemark, beyond that in terms of distribution I don't know
And API has Priceline and Soul Pats totalling about 380 adn again I don't know their total distrution reach.
But it is clear that Sigma has first the bigggest banner network and a massive wholesale networks.
On the prescription front Sigma's branded lines equated to 6.57% of all prescriptions last year versus Aspen on 5.3% and GSK on 9.53%. Generics is top and some of that would also be Sigma(I got this from Aspen's 2009 AR preso-
http://www.aspenpharma.com/SiteResources/documents/Financials/2009/APHL_YE%20Results_as%20at%20June%202009_FINAL.pdf
If Aspen takes out Sigma they would vault from 8th on this list to number one (under generics.) and have access to the biggest network of pharmacies in the country
The more I look at it, the more i think if Aspen walks away someone else will have a tilt at them.
