He's remaining a NED. The world is crying out for new mines of copper, nickel, lithium etc. If you've got mad skills in starting up mines then people will come knocking particularly Africa as not many people want to work in Africa.

Stay at West Wits as MD the next 2-3 years and earn $250k a year or be a NED and get $500-750k in a larger mining start up as GM.
