It makes sense to some degree that they would slow drilling if they were experiencing significant delays in receiving assay results. You wouldn't want to rush ahead, drill a whole series of holes then find that the ore body is different to your initial assumptions when the initial assays come back and that the last series of holes were a waste of time and money.
