A few of points of interest in relation to Share Purchase Plans courtesy of TTR company secretary Graham Anderson (I asked)
"a company is not permitted to offer a free option under a share purchase plan, in terms of the ASIC Class Order"
They "must be done at a discount to weighted average closing share prices."
They "are quick, cheaper compared to either placements or entitlement issues"
From my experience its pro rata rights issues that seem to be the vehicle for share + options / options capital raisings.
Of interest to some:ASIC REGULATORY GUIDE 125 on Share purchase plans http://www.asic.gov.au/asic/pdflib.nsf/LookupByFileName/rg125a.pdf/$file/rg125a.pdf
