The manufacturing facilities in Perth were designed for Argyle Pink Diamonds. A completely different product from the Ekati rough diamonds. Remember diamonds are unique and have distinct characteristics. The skill set for cutting & polishing these differing products is completely different and cannot be taught overnight. It would be interesting to see their profitability for previous manufacturing endeavors.
Maison Mazarea looks like a great start but I do not see the major luxury brands (Tiffany, Cartier, Graff) promoting a competing brand. It is early days but the right strategy.
Regardless I think Kim and the Board have a clear vision and will execute a flawless plan that we probably cannot see as yet. BDM is in great hands!!
