Crystal voyer i concur with the East Timor part - i was there in 1999 landed the morning of day two on the HMAS Jervis Bay, seen the total destruction and devistation rouned up militia who were only doing what the Indonesian Army told them to do, and finally liberated a country. We won a war without having to fight a war, sure back then we got the praise but now we didnt have the road side bombs and the Osamba Bin Lardens to fight it was a swift action that lead too a dam good result. I can tell you know there were two days i would do it all again for and that was one the day the Indos left East Timor and two the day we finally brought home the refugees from West Timor, two days i will never forget. I cant even describe the feeling on these two days.
So Volt to say we were only there for Oil, unless you were there and have a first hand experience like i did then i suggest you keep your suggestions to yourself. This is the same for both Iraq and Afghanistan all countries were under a suppressive rule and to liberate them from this is justification alone to engage in any warfare. Some people might not like my stance on this but until you have seen the other side of the fence then you have no place to comment on it.
