The incentive will likely be an offtake at a discount to the spot price. In exchange for funding carbonate they get first dibs on the carbonate.
There is a huge shortage of lithium coming up and manufacturers not only want to guarantee supply but they want to be slightly immune to spot pricing and give themselves some stability. A good deal will likely have a floor and a cap for pricing and if its really smart that cap and floor would be tied to inflation.
