It keeps the price supported post raise. If we knew what the SPP details were, you might be inclined to sell and take up your SPP putting downwards pressure on the price. If they announce in a few days that the SPP is for holders at a specific date or even decide to remove this option entirely, if you were to sell your stock now you wouldn't qualify and may have to buy back on market. It's actually quite smart given their previous experience (and disappointment) with SPPs and entitlement offerings.
