Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy is a way to get immune cells called T cells (a type of white blood cell) to fight cancer by changing them in the lab so they can find and destroy cancer cells. The usual method is to find a suitable virus and modify it to target the patient's cancer cells delivering a double whammy... 1. The virus selectively destroys cancer cells (leaving healthy cells alone) 2. Trains the patient's T Cells to recognise cancerous cells which then continue attacking and destroying the cancerous cells.
