Thanks for that,Steve.
The signs are certainly there that EXT may be heading down that path.
Here's some more info about the man responsible for getting the mine up and running asap....
Introducing Norman Green
CEO for Swakop Uranium
In October 2009 Norman Green
was appointed CEO of Swakop
Uranium, Extracts 100% owned
Namibian subsidiary. Under Normans
high calibre leadership, Swakop
will establish a highly skilled and
experienced team dedicated to
seeing the Rssing South deposit
move from an outstanding
discovery into a world class mine.
Where were you before you
joined Swakop Uranium?
I was operating in Southern Africa
as an independent consultant in
the active project management
sphere for large mining and
mineral beneficiation projects. I
have been at various places in
the periodic table of the elements Gold, Platinum, Aluminum
and Zinc.
Tell us about your background and experience?
South African by birth, schooled in Pretoria. After military service
and a University of the Witwatersrand engineering degree, I
joined Union Corporation and the deep level hard rock mining
business in Platinum and Gold, which had me involved in shaft
sinking, underground and surface mine construction, operation
and maintenance. Climbed the mining technical corporate ladder
to consulting engineer at 35. I looked after the technical aspects
of several mines and their peripheral infrastructure for a number
of years, and managed numerous mining and beneficiation
brown and green field projects. I project managed the Hillside
Aluminum Smelter in Richards Bay for Gencor, one of the founding
components of todays BHP Billiton and a descendant of Union
Corporation. I also project managed the Skorpion Zinc project in
Namibia as an independent for (ultimately) Anglo American Base
Metals Division. More recently I have been involved in the deep
level mineshaft sinking and infrastructure development business
for platinum producers in South Africa.
What are the key objectives for Swakop Uranium in the next
6 to 12 months?
The key objectives are to assemble an experienced Swakop team to see
the project phase through and, using an appropriate study contractor,
to build on the initial work to produce a Definitive Feasibility Study
incorporating the best technical and commercial options to develop
the Husab Mine ore body. We are on track to achieve this by the end
of 2010.
Can you give a high level overview of your role?
The best high level overview description of my role is by Nike Just do
it! In other words, lets get on with building a mine.
What attracted you to the role?
I really enjoy building large projects, and in particular being able to get
involved at the earliest stage, when you can have the most influence
on the outcome. An added bonus in this case is working in Namibia (its
a great country), and the existing Swakop Uranium team which I have
inherited all great people!
How have you gone with building the team?
Pretty much as planned, the whole team should be on the job in the
imminent future. Going forward, Swakop Uranium are excited and fully
committed to building a team comprising local employees to operate
what is sure to be a world-class uranium mine.
What do these new team members bring to Swakop Uranium?
Experience, ability and track records in project delivery. Its an extremely
specific and high powered business, very different from operations
management. Typically there is no time to train new recruits when you
are spending several million dollars per day in order to bring a project in
on time, so you have to start with experienced people.
What were your initial thoughts of the Husab Project?
Being very humbled by the beauty and vastness of it it kind of puts
you in your place and makes you realize just how insignificant you are.
Then I was struck by the enormous faith demonstrated by a nations
leadership and their commitment to responsible development to uplift
their people, leading them to allow prospecting and mine development
in such a beautiful part of the world. I then become more determined
than ever not to let them down, and to build a mine that will be a credit
to its owners as well as those that had the faith to allow it, and therefore
with the utmost respect for the environment. Incidentally, I felt exactly
the same standing on the site of the Skorpion Zinc Project before that
job commenced.
