Don't do this

Log splitting is preferably done with a log splitter
I don't have one of those.
I used to use wedges driven in with a sledge hammer
More recently, last couple of years, I've used one of those log splitting axes that have wedges built into the sides.
Often I still need to knock it in with the hanger though
And here's the tricky bit. To keep the log stable enough to hit it with the hammer, I put the axe handle between my legs and gently drive the axe through with the hammer. Usually only takes 2 or three knocks.

If you're any where within 100kms and hear an earth-shattering scream one day....well, think kindly of me.
