It is important that the Board manages expectations rather than shoot from the hip like a Gillard (East Timor). It would have been a better option to get ATO tax ruling before announcing a capital return. This would have allowed the Board to consider alternatives in case of adverse ATO ruling. On this account, I think the Board as failed to manage shareholder expectations and have damaged their management credibility.
