I know of one man, friend of a friend, who stashed hundreds of gold sovereigns in curtain rods and when he sold the house he forgot about them. Mind you he was an eccentric English billionaire. He didn't exactly miss them.
I once owned part of a hoard of Edward 1st silver coins hidden by an owner who never returned and it was found six hundred and fifty years later.
How long does furniture last? We have half a dozen pieces from the mid-17th century in very good condition and in everyday use, solid English oak.
I wouldn't tell anyone if I held physical gold except the person closest to me.
