It appears reading that article from 1925, the formation of the large spodumene crystals in the Black Hills region can be attributed to the specific geological and mineralogical conditions of the area, including the presence of the Harney Peak granite and the pegmatites intruded into the pre-Cambrian metamorphic rocks, as well as the intense alteration of the schist at the contact point with the pegmatite.
