If you had to ask.... this is my opinion only so take with a excavator load of sand!
My take, Weebit has a few opportunities for partnership with Tier1 Foundries, but many have existing NVM projects in flight. It is likely that Weebit shall qualify their ReRAM on as many foundries as possible then work directly with semiconductor companies to integrate ReRAM into new products.
Weebit's product is suitable for a large variety of applications, but will encounter competitors at every step, if the product is as good as claimed they should be successful in launching & acquiring semiconductor customers very soon.
Foundries - Top 10
- TSMC Global market share of 60%. Already offering embedded 28nm RERAM to customers, e.g. Infineon. Also producing MRAM @ 16nm. Unlikely to purchase or partner with Weebit unless their own product is significantly inferior. Weebit should seek to qualify its product on TSMC fabs to allow 3rd party fabless companies to purchase WBT IP & produce at TSMC foundries.
- Samsung MRAM product commercially available today, direct competitor to Weebit with significant difference. Often pricier due to materials. Samsung are also developing their own ReRAM, name 'Vertical ReRAM', project appears to have been shelved, over 1200 ReRAM patents. Samsung executive quoted 2015 they are less interested in ReRAM & PCRAM as they don't offer distinctive value. Samsung may choose to add Weebit ReRam to its offering, or restrain as to not impact investment in existing MRAM products.
- UMC 2017 partnership with Panasonic to develop ReRAM, any update??? eMemory qualified 22nm with UMC in March 2023. Potential for Weebit to qualify too. Global Foundries STT-MRAM available for purchase now. GF licensed ReRAM from Dialog in 2021, but has purchased the technology in Feb 2023. The Reram (CBRAM) was developed by Adesto Technologies Inc. and the technology passed to Dialog with the acquisition of Adesto in September 2020. Unlikely for GF to partner with Weebit due to recent purchase of Renesas technology. Also producing Everspin MRAM. Weebit can still qualify and sell products produced at GF.
- SMIC Selling Crossbar ReRAM since 2017, lack of news indicates product success has been mild at best. Potential to sell Weebit ReRAM as well
- Huahong ?
- Powerchip (PSMC) Plans for MRAM. Details lacking. No information about ReRAM. Weebit target?
- Tower Selling MRAM IP (Crocus technology). ReRAM in development (details thin). Cohen will be pressuring his contacts to invest & partner with Weebit.
- VIS?
- DB Hitek 2018 — DB HiTek licensed Adesto RRAM technology. Appears to be unsuccessful. Considering GF has bought Adesto product, DB maybe without a product offereing now. Potential for Weebit licensing.
- Micron Heavy investor in ReRAM, over 750 patents. Previously invested with Intel in 3D XPoint Optane. 2021 Micron pulled out of 32 Xpoint due to cost, to concentrate on CXL. Fab sold to Texas Instruments.
