What do you call high cost? A PCR Covid test costs around $150 if not subsidised. An MRI can cost over $1000. A mass produced chip need not be uncompetitive with other test methods, and time and convenience is worth a lot. Besides, a single use product is surely a better business model when you hold the IP?
