I literally don't know any degrees, 10 years + experienced geologists that earn less than AUD200k. And I know more than a few.

Your notion that people of equivalent education, experience and skills would be "cheaper to hire a local" in Brazil is not accurate, particularly when the industries concerned are global in nature and highly technical like mining, and oil and gas, or indeed technology (software).

The company I work for hired a software engineer based in Jakarta, an Indonesian national, and their salary is the same bracket as our software engineers in the US or Norway. They get paid "market rate" because they are good at what they do, not because of their passport.
