Red 5 showed the oz per 10 vertical meters (RLs used ), in its presentation today ,yes not so important for open cut as mining is not normally restricted by the distance of vertical advance per year like UG .
Think the rule of thumb is can go down 60 meters per year in an underground lens/dike without bottle neck issues
OVM is Really a pretty useless metric for OAU at this stage .
the 1000 oz OVM rule of thumb is a flexible number , ie not much use 1000 OVM if AISC is $3000 an oz , a a high tenor , narrow vein short strike competent country rock , may more than compensate for being below `1000 OVM as would possibly en echelon jogged veins like here that can be accessed by the one drive so lower development cost per oz
