Goodheart, just to clarify, my comment about housing and homelessness was generally about housing in Australia, and not specifically about indigenous people. You might have noticed that housing is a bit of a problem at the moment. Have you tried to find a rental property in the past few years? I have. It's like the Hunger Games! "Leave people be" you say. What sort of an attitude is that? If someone was starving on the side of the road would you say "no, they really LIKE starving, it's much better not to help them"? Where's your good heart?
I have mostly stopped looking at this thread because it contains too much racism and a very low level of compassion and sophistication. The ignorance is astonishing. For one thing, Nolan78, miners don't "buy land from the government"! The government just gives it to them! Where did the government get the land from? The First Nations. Did the government ever pay for it or negotiate anything for it? No they did not. On that basis the legality of Australia itself is in question. This is why it's good for all Australians to come to an arrangement with the indigenous people, for us all to walk together, as it says in the Uluru Statement.
Owenplace, thank you for making the effort, it restores my faith in humanity somewhat. Now I'm going back to ignoring the thread because I expect more 1950s throwbacks will come spewing forth more nonsense yet again.
