So Russia began with with a non-Nato Finland (and Sweden), a run down pop gun Nato that was rift with squabbling, a US that was also running down its military, a Ukraine whose military had reached such a state of decay that Poots thought it could whip it in a SMO lasting a few weeks or months at most; and a Europe that was so beholden to Russian energy that it would freeze or starve unless it played ball (or so all you pro Poots posters used to love posting about until, well it didn't happen).

Through Russia's own miscalculations, military misadventures, hyper militarized threats (i.e. to nuke anyone that doesn't agree with it) and hyper militarisation (i.e. attacking the Ukraine and spreading its nuclear weapons into Belarus), Russia has caused Nato to expand, the Baltic States and Poland to turn virulently anti Russian (i.e because they feel threatened), Nato to rearm itself with a massive expansion of its ability to manufacture weapons and munitions (super important if you need to fight) and the pièce de résistance of Poots steaming pile of Shite, Europe and the Western world telling Russia to shove its gas and oil in its nether regions.

Not an Adele fan but her her line "We could've had it all" is so salient.

There was no military threat to Russia.

Rather Europe was bending over backwards to take Russian gas, the Russian oligarchs loved spending their money in Europe and Europe loved having them, it had a lot of European politicians actively promoting ties (particularly Germans) and the US may not have loved this, but let's be real, it couldn't really give a toss about Russia as its focus was moving to Asia and in particular China (and a healthy pro Europe leaning of Russia suited its strategically to offset China).

What a genius Poots was, given its been almost an Operation Barbarossa in reverse.
