The well trajectory was a simple build and hold affair. On the directional drilling scale of difficulty that's about 2 out of 10. Around 70% of the wells Ive worked over the years were deviated as M-1 was in order to hit laterally offset multiple stacked targets.

The trajectory had very little to do with the issues encountered on Mukuyu-1 and the sidetrack.

Differential sticking is caused when hydrostatic pressure exerted by the mud column is significantly higher than formation pressure.

The exact cause of the time dependent hole deterioration appears to be unknown at this stage although I've heard suggestions from SM that mud properties may be a factor. If the hole deterioration is stress related then its possible that hole trajectory could become a factor...but at this stage this doesn't seem to be the mechanism producing the hole instability. Ive fielded a question on this for today's fireside chat with SM.

Are you watching Kiwi cause I think that question came up. Scott mentioned that the water based mud was interacting with the clay in the hole and was causing swelling issues.
