I have held Coles shares for years, and they were my "go to" for shopping a long time, out of loyalty I guess. When I left the Corporate world, and my income dropped, I tried Aldi. Buy an item, save a dollar Buy two items, save two dollars, and so it goes.
You may not recognize the brands at first, but Aldi quality is equal - and many of their goods come from the Australian CPG suppliers who also supply Coles and Woolies. Coles and Woolies won't be paying the CPG manufacturers any more than Aldi do - so there is no rationale to pay more for equivalent goods. Where the argument against Aldi counts, is where their goods are imported from Germany, while we have Australian capability. Under those circumstances, productive capacity in Australia is exported overseas. Also, Aldi don't serve all communities, as they also rely on efficient supply chains - my son is in Darwin, and Aldi do not serve Darwin.
