Not crazy at all, it is interesting back when i was studying psychology, we did an experiment where in a controlled condition on a group people who were asked what was the color on a tv screen, they had all except 1 been told to say it was green when in fact it was grey. The single individual at first went into confusion, and then denial of common sense, and then looked at the other subjects in the experiment who were adamant and disagreed and said it was green, they were also told to say can't you see that.

The third time the test subject was asked was it green the subject said yes it's green, even though because of the controlled condition it was in fact grey.
The power of what a group believes can be very powerful the fear of not agreeing and fitting in is a primal emotion.
