sorry re previous delay - i have had a lot of internet troubles - just late today i have become aware of following article which a quick skim I thought a bit sensational ( like 60 mins ) but might have some relevant facts and the politics of it all - i still havent read it as internet too dodgy

vanity fair not likely to be overly scientific and sorry i could not save in link form
In answer to your question i do not know about responsibly - it is certainly harder to do the more wells that are proposed - even before/despite such articles I was worried ( and like you some four to five years ago but i wasnt on hotcopper then ! ) , but more to do with timelines( whilst they do more investigating ); and also whether they would allow the huge scale of development proposed ( ie. bg, santos, origin, arrow and westide/mitsui/ molopo ) - bearing in mind there has been quite a number of wells producing for domestic market and agl is involved with arrow in most of those
apparently there is a moritorium on new wells in penn USA , and i hear tonight a rumour( could be baseless ) that qld govt might be considering the same
