On the broader question of whether SI should go, my main concern is who would replace him pending the appointment of a new CEO. There is frankly no-one on the Board or in the management team who could act as CEO particularly given the current circumstances.
Normally, of course, the Board would have a succession plan in place but I see no evidence of that, nor do I have any confidence that the Board will recognise the need to consider replacing the CEO (or more to the point, have the motivation to act on it).
While in the medium term I think MSB likely needs to transition to a new CEO, right now I think SI is the best bet, there is a capital raise inevitably coming up and he has the relationships (albeit a little tarnished!) and the scientific communication skills needed. But the Board needs to be looking out beyond the next few months - unfortunately I have little confidence in them, so won't be buying just yet!
