except russias starting point is recognition of annexed territories - putin has said they are now part of russia and cannot be given back
so really , there is no basis for negotiation
what putin wants is a cease fire and a relaxation of sanctions to give him time to regroup
Ukraine wants to finish once and for all now - when they have good support from the west
